Liquid spills

Coffee on a keyboard is the classic office accident. We handled an EliteBook 840 G2 after a beer spill. Switch the laptop off, do not charge it, and call us.

Sleep, battery and charging faults

Laptops that will not wake, drain overnight or only charge at an angle. One EliteBook Folio would not wake from sleep until a BIOS and hard reset.

Getting laptops to and from the workshop

Laptops travel with our own DBS-vetted driver, never a courier. Collections run on weekday mornings within about five miles of our offices in Ancoats and Miles Platting, which covers the city centre, Salford Quays and the surrounding districts. Repairs happen in our workshop rather than at your desk, and visits to our offices are by appointment.

Send the charger with each laptop and a note of who uses it. Where several staff laptops need attention, one collection can take them all, each with its own quote so you can decide which to repair and which to retire.

Based in Stockport? Much of Stockport lies beyond our collection radius, so give us your postcode and we will set out the options, such as a drop-off by appointment. Software faults can often be handled through remote support instead.

Cost, warranty and paperwork

Each laptop repair carries our £75 standard service fee, VAT included. Screens, batteries, keyboards and other parts are priced for you to approve before we fit them. Change your mind after we have diagnosed the fault and you pay a £25 diagnostic fee only.

Parts and labour are guaranteed for 90 days; spills and knocks after the repair are not covered. The invoice is settled before the laptop is returned, and it is a proper VAT invoice for your accounts.

Encryption, accounts and managed laptops

Business laptops are usually encrypted and often managed centrally. A little preparation avoids delays.

Before collection, please

  • Make sure you can get the BitLocker recovery key if the laptop needs it, but do not email it to us
  • Tell us if the laptop is managed by Intune, Autopilot or another management system
  • Let us know who can approve a quote, so work is not held up
  • Back up anything the user cannot afford to lose, if the laptop still works

We will not

  • Ask for staff passwords by email or through a form
  • Remove management or security software without your agreement
  • Wipe a laptop unless you ask us to
  • Carry out board-level or soldering repairs

Can you collect several laptops at once?
Yes. We collect them together and quote each one separately.
Will you need our BitLocker recovery key?
Sometimes, after certain repairs. Please make sure your administrator can find it, but never email it to us. We will arrange a safe way to enter it if it is needed.
How much does a business laptop repair cost?
Our standard service fee is £75 including VAT, plus any parts, quoted before we start. If you decide not to go ahead after assessment, the diagnostic fee is £25.
What does the warranty cover?
Parts and labour for 90 days. It does not cover liquid or accidental damage.
